We developed a solution in response to a design competition which requested ideas for providing direct pedestrian access from Grant Park in downtown Chicago to Lake Michigan's waterfront edge. The main obstacle is the existing multi-lane Lake Shore Drive which runs parallel with the lake.

Rather than go above or below ground with our pedestrian or bike paths, we proposed to gradually elevate the surface of Lake Shore Drive with new supports, and allow the pedestrian connections (a series of light filled tubes) to occur at ground level.
